StereoLithography is a technology that uses a 3D CAD design to produce solid epoxy prototype models.  The stereoLithography apparatus (SLA) is connected to a computer.  Specialized software directs a laser beam over a an epoxy resin in an exact pattern of the the 3D CAD model.  The laser beam hardens a thin layer of the resin and  over time, the laser "builds" a solid plastic prototype layer by layer.  The result is a highly accurate solid model of the 3D CAD design.

To get the most from rapid prototyping, stereolithography  must be considered as an integrated step in the development process.  StereoLithography should not be considered a stand-alone function.  Rather, it is the first critical step in the process that turns a 3D CAD model into a functional prototype part.

StereoLithography parts can be metal plated in brass or chrome or painted to your PMS color specifications. Parts can also be polished to gain a transparent quality, thus giving you the ability to assemble parts and see how internal wiring or other elements fit.

In order to use stereoLithography properly, one needs to have an understanding of the basic 3D CAD design process, the stereoLithography part production process, the functional use or uses of the prototype parts and even the parts manufacturing process.

APS will produce your stereoLithography parts by consulting with you to ensure we understand all your needs. Then, we will provide you with our recommendations, perhaps including options you might not have considered.  For example, a stereoLithography part built for form, fit and function can also be used as a model at a trade show or in a photo shoot. A stereolithography part can be textured, painted or plated to resemble the finished product.

Whatever your needs, APS offers state of the art technology in stereoLithography.  We will work with you one on one to produce parts to your specifications, insuring fast and accurate prototype parts.
