ADVANCED FINISHING

GET THE APPEARANCE YOU WANT WITH OUR ADVANCED FINISHING TECHNIQUES FOR SLA AND URETHANE PARTS

Vacuum Metalizing

The Vacuum metalizing (PVD coating) process involves vaporizing a thin metallic layer onto a substrate. Vacuum metalizing has a wide range of uses and is most commonly used in prototyping to simulate chrome plating or to produce shiny surfaces to act as optical reflectors.

Vacuum Metalizing of 3D printed models requires special care and involves fine polishing and the use of specialized coatings during the preparation stage. The finishing team at APS has years of experience handling these type of projects. Vacuum Metalizing can be combined with other secondary finishing to create parts which simulate stainless steel, aluminum, brushed satin chrome and gold, as well as transparent tinted finishes.

Painting

Advantage Prototypes can paint your model to match your color requirements, simulate specialized finishes such as antique bronze, brushed aluminum or stainless steel, and we can texture your models to simulate injection-molded surfaces.

Clear/Transparent

A Quick Clear finish is created with SLA by adding a clear topcoat to a nominally finished model creating a see-though finish with little finishing time or cost. A Polished Clear or transparent finish is created for SLA by sanding and polishing the model inside and out. Urethane parts can be cast using transparent materials.

Dyed/Tinted

SLA and metalized parts can be colorized by applying a tinted top coat or by dyeing. We often use tints and dyes to make automotive and consumer lighting and reflectors.

Vinyl Graphics

Advantage Prototypes uses custom vinyl graphics and adhesive decals to add that final touch to presentation models.
